Who is Eligible?

Platform Comics’s 2019 Short Comic Competition is open to all comic creators who are thirteen years or older at the time of entry. Any creators under the age of eighteen must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter. Age restrictions apply to the individual submitting the comic, paying the submission fee, and accepting the awards and prizes.

Schedule

Submissions for the competition will be open on August 28th, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. PDT and close on October 2nd, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. Results of the competition are scheduled to be announced on October 16th for finalists, and October 23rd for Winner and Runner Up, but may be delayed if more time is needed to properly judge all submissions.

Comics

Comics may be in any genre.

All files must be in PDF format with a maximum file size of 100MB.

Comic pages can be any size (width and height). There are no requirements for dimensions and DPI.

Comics should be completed when submitting. You should not submit a comic that is still a work in progress. You should not submit a comic script, a comic that is pencilled but not inked, etc.

All lettering, captions, and titles should be in English. Judges are not required to read anything written in any language other than English.

You must be the owner or licensee of all rights associated with the comic’s characters and story. Fan-fiction and unlicensed works will be disqualified.

Entry Fee

Paying the required fee and uploading one original comic entitles you to participate in the competition.

The Entry Fee is NOT refundable.

You may submit multiple comics, but each comic will require its own entry fee.

Entry fee does not guarantee you any prizes of any form.

You may NOT request any updates to your comic once you have submitted it. If you wish to make changes to your comic after you have submitted, you must pay for a new submission.

Judging Process

This is a competition, not a sweepstakes or lottery. Your comic will be judged on the skills displayed by the comic creators. These skills include, but are not limited to: writing, pencilling, inking, coloring, and lettering.

The first round of judging will produce ten finalists.

Runner Up and Winner will be chosen from amongst the finalists in a second round of judging.

All comics will be read and judged by at least two judges. Finalists will be read and judged by all participating judges.

Winners and Prizes

Finalists, Runner Up, and Winner will be notified by email within 3 days of announcement on the website and social media.

Prizes will be sent to the person who submitted the comic to the competition.

Prizes will be sent to the winners within 10 days of the announcement.

Winners are responsible for all taxes and fees associated with prize receipt.

Platform Comics reserves the right to substitute any listed prize for one of equal or greater value for any reason.

 

Your Comic Rights

You maintain all rights to your comic, including characters, settings, and story.

You are free to enter your comic in other competitions simultaneously.

You are free to submit your comic for publishing with any publisher.

By participating in the competition, you grant Platform Comics the right to use your comic's name and the names of the comic’s creators for promotional purposes without any payment to you.

We will not share your comic in its entirety, but may ask your consent to use the cover artwork or an interior page for promotional purposes.
