FAQ

Q: Does my cover count towards the page limit?

A: Only story pages count towards the page limit. Cover pages, credit pages, and anything else are not counted.

Q: Are there requirements for page size?

A: The only file requirement is that your comic is uploaded as a pdf. Pages can have any dimensions and dpi.

Q: Can I submit a comic based on popular characters?

A: No. Characters, settings, and stories must be fully owned by the person submitting. The only exception are stories and characters in the public domain.

Q: Can I submit multiple comics?

A: Yes. But you will need to pay a submission fee for each entry.

Q: What if my comic has been previously published?

A: This competition is made for up-and-coming creators, but we are open to all comics, including those that have been published.

Q: Can I submit a horror comic?

A: Yes. We accept all genres. In the future we’d love to have an all horror contest!

Q: Can I submit a webcomic?

A: Yes, but it has to be submitted as a pdf.

Q: Can I submit the first 12 pages of my single issue comic?

A: Nobody can really determine what qualifies as a short comic, but this competition is focused on completed short comics. So if judges won’t be able to experience your full story, your comic will not stand up against ones with a proper beginning, middle, and end. We will be launching a single issue competition in the near future.

Q: I wrote my comic, but didn’t make the art. Can I submit?

A: Yes. Comics can be made by a team of creators or just an individual. Comics can be submitted by any member of the team, but only the person submitting the comic will be entitled to the prizes, so it’s up to you how you disperse them to your team.

Q: Can I upload a new version of my comic after I’ve submitted?

A: Unfortunately, no. It is up to you to make sure you are fully satisfied with your comic when you submit.

Q: Can I submit my comic if I am not in the USA?

A: Yes! We accept comics from all over the world. That said, if the judges can't read in your language, they won't be able to enjoy your story. So make sure your lettering is in English.

Q: Can I submit a script or pencils?

A: You should only submit comics that have been finished and are ready to be read like any other comic. There is no rule that your comic has to be colored, or even lettered (maybe you don’t have any dialogue), but if your comic is half finished the judges won’t be able to experience it properly.

Q: How old do I have to be to submit a comic?

A: You must be 13 years or older to submit. If you are under 18 you need the consent of a parent/guardian before submitting.

Q: How will my comic be judged?

A: The judges will have a scorecard with points for different categories, including, but not limited to: writing, art, colors, lettering, and overall score.

Q: Will these stories be published in an anthology?

A: Platform Comics will release an anthology of all the finalists. It will be free and distributed online.

Q: How do I make my comic into a PDF?

A: You’re in luck! We made a video series all about comic book production. Check out our TUTORIALS page.
